The Department of French & Italian Languages and Literatures will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year in grand style. On 29-30 October 2015, six distinguished scholars will come to Pittsburgh to share their research during a conference–fittingly focused on the theme of commemoration–comprised of a keynote lecture, five plenary interventions with responses, and a book presentation. So that our conversation can best transcend the boundaries of our geographical location and the 30 or so hours of our conference time, we have created this online space. Here, we will share information about conference themes, events, and participants; stream the conference sessions in real time; provide a forum for the creation of collaborative timelines for the (francophone and Italian) cultures we research and teach and for our department; and give alumni and friends of the department the opportunity to participate in our intellectual and social networks–whether or not they can be here for the big day.
We hope you’ll take a moment to like our FRIT50 Facebook page, and stop by the second floor of Hillman Library sometime in October 2015 to see the Special Collections accompanying exhibit on the events explored during our conference. We will end our celebration on the evening of 30 October 2015 with a social reception at the University Club; we hope you can join us for all or some part of this celebration.
